Shawna and her husband, Jason, have been married for 24 years, and have raised four wonderful children. Jason is a Marine and has dedicated 23 years of service to our community as a firefighter.

Temps in DFW could drop below freezing for the next several days, so we’re sharing a few tips to keep your home and family safe during the winter weather:

❄️ Bring your pets inside, out of the cold.

❄️ Drip water from faucets on freezing nights, especially if plumbing is on an exterior wall.

❄️Open cabinet doors to help circulate warm air around plumbing on exterior walls.

❄️Know where your water main shut off valve is, in case you need to shut water off. It’s typically close to your water meter.

❄️Disconnect hoses from outside faucets and insulate hose bibs with styrofoam covers.

❄️Keep heat on at least 60 degrees, even when you leave.

❄️Make sure fireplace damper is open while fireplace is in use. Close damper when not in use and once fire is completely out.

❄️Replace your air filter every 30 days, and keep air return vents clear of obstacles that restrict free air flow.

❄️Test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

❄️Remove snow or ice from walkways and put down sand or salt.

❄️Turn off automatic sprinkler systems.
