July 11, 2024: National Real Estate Market Update!

1. **Spending on Residential Construction:**
- Last month, in May, people spent almost the same amount on building homes as they did in April.
- But when we compare to last year in May, builders have spent more money—6% more! That means they're building more houses now than they were a year ago.
- Especially for single-family homes, which are the ones families usually live in, spending is even higher—almost 14% more than last year! That's a lot more new homes being built.

2. **Home Prices:**
- Now, about how much homes cost—CoreLogic looked into this. They found that in May, home prices only went up a little bit—just 0.6% from April.
- Compared to last year, prices went up by 4.9%. This is the first time this year that the price increase has been less than 5%.

3. **Homes For Sale:**
- There are also more homes available for sale now compared to last year. In May, there were 35.2% more homes for sale than there were last year.
- And people who are selling their homes have been busy too! There were 6.2% more new homes listed for sale this May compared to last year.

In summary: more homes are being built, prices are going up slower than before, and there are more homes for sale than last year.
