Today, I became that woman who wears hearts on Valentine's Day and I'm oddly ok with it. Who knows, maybe I'll find Shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day, flags for Independence Day, and Turkeys for Thanksgiving.

Ok, not going that far. But I will say, over the past year I've definitely found more confidence in myself. The other day I was talking with my friend about why I never listened to a mutual friend of ours who repeatedly told me I should do musical theater. My life really is a musical. I told her I didn't have the confidence until the last year or so to think I could do something like that.

When I was in prek and elementary school I used to take the mic in the old ballroom after orientation dinners and perform for the serving staff who were cleaning up. And then the opportunity came for me to do it for real and I couldn't bring myself to even consider the idea.

And now I'm in a job that constantly requires me to put myself in front of people and I can't help but think what this job would be like if I hadn't backed away from the stage.

But I can't change the past. At the end of my conversation with my friend she said "I like the 2021/2022 Mary Katherine".

Me, too.

I found this quote back when I was in college shortly after I took a class on Liberation Theology. In short, Liberation Theology is the idea that none of us are truly whole until we are all valued and respected and loved. And this is my reminder of why I chose real estate.

I needed to know the system so that I can work to change it. And I also need to remember that I'm not called to work on behalf of my neighbor. I'm called to work WITH my neighbor because they have stories I will never understand that are meaningful to our communities.
