It is with a heavy heart that I share that my beloved grandmother and co-founder of Williams Trew Real Estate passed away peacefully yesterday at the age of 92.

Joan, or Grammy as my cousins and I all called her, was an incredible, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a role model for me from the time I was little with her never-ending kindness for others, her unwavering faith in God, love for her friends and family, unstoppable work ethic, and impressive business savvy. Gram and I always shared a special bond as we visited regularly when I was away at Baylor, as I traveled the U.S. in the energy business, and once I started my real estate career. She introduced our family to 30A where she visited from the time she was a child in the late ‘30s & ‘40s growing up in Lower Alabama (or “LA” as she called it). She never missed the opportunity to walk up and down the beach and admire the beautiful sunset even into her late 80s.

Joan was born in Opp, Alabama in 1932 and arrived in Fort Worth in 1950. She became licensed in 1977 with William Rigg Realtors, where she would meet her future business partner Martha Williams. Williams Trew Real Estate was started in 2000 with her partner and dear friend Martha Williams and Marshall Boyd, at Joan’s age of 68.

Joan was a pioneer in Fort Worth real estate and an encourager to her colleagues.

I consistently hear stories of admiration from her friends and clients around Ft. Worth or agents she mentored—each of whom she valued so greatly. She sparked my interest in real estate at a young age and I’m grateful I had so many years to learn from her.

I feel so thankful to have had the blessing of being her grandson. Our family will miss her dearly. As you watch the sunset, know Joan never misses one either.
