Fed Cuts Rate by 50 Basis Points!

The FED announced the unexpected rate cut in its recent policy meeting

The Federal Open Market Committee announced a 0.50% rate cut in its September 17-18, 2024 policy meeting.

The current rate will be in the range of 4.75% to 5%.

This is the first time the Fed has cut rates since March 2020. The previous rate cut was in response to the economic slowdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fed rarely cuts rates by 50 basis points outside of emergencies like the pandemic. Such a ‘super-sized’ cut was last implemented in 2008 during the Great Recession.

This rate cut will have an impact on housing affordability, which has been a major concern in recent years.
