A war baby born in Middletown, Ohio to Dorothy and Fred A. Yoder, Tim was by five years, the youngest of two sons. Tim was to spend most of his life in the company of his parents and brother. The family ran a company together for almost 40 years.
He is the father of two sons by Phillis Straka, and one son by Ramona Yoder (dec).
Tim was athletic and active in his youth. He competed in swimming, wrestling, and other youth sports. An authoritative expert on the classics, he followed boxing and especially NASCAR racing until his end.
Tim attended Miami University (OHIO). While there, he attained his private pilot certification.
Tim was a mechanical and technical expert just as his brother, father, and father’s father were. He found early employment in heavy American industry and manufacturing such as Armco Steel, AiResearch, and as a quality control manager for Kaiser Aluminum. In San Diego in the late 60s, he worked on a military project in support of US servicemen in Vietnam.
Tim was a capable auto and motorcycle mechanic, and eventually aircraft builder, as a result of which, he also became a master fiberglass technician.
A founding pioneer and builder of Fountain Hills, a partner and general contractor in Yoder Built, he oversaw the construction of more than 350 single family custom homes in Fountain Hills and nearby communities.
Elected Fountain Hills fire commissioner and serving the community for 20 years in that role, Tim is one of the longest serving elected officials in the history of Fountain Hills. As such, he oversaw the construction of the first two Fountain Hills fire stations, one of which was built in partnership with the Fort McDowell Yavapai community.
In 1973 and 1974, Tim was a founding parent of the local Cub Scout precursor organization, he was also a founding coach for Fountain Hills Little League and co-organizer in other FH institutions. All the community involvement was cause for our father being named “Fountain Hills Citizen of the Year” in 1986.
A private pilot for 60 years, Tim dedicated about 5000 hours to building his own plane and piloting it on the maiden flight in 1998. He was an active member of EAA Chapter 228 and ran their Saturday Flying group for many years. At 81 years old, Fred was recognized by the FAA as a “Wright Brothers Master Pilot.”
After the passing of his wife Ramona, Fred “Tim” Yoder met and joined in partnership with his new love, Susan Clifford. Together they flew and traveled.
