They drowned four towns to give Boston a drink of water. 💧

Dana. Enfield. Greenwich. Prescott. Four working-class communities in central Massachusetts, home to 2,500 people, were forcibly disincorporated by the state in 1938. Residents were given a buyout price they didn't negotiate, a deadline they didn't choose, and a final eviction date that didn't move. Then the Swift River Valley was flooded, and four towns ceased to exist.

The Quabbin Reservoir now holds 412 billion gallons of water and supplies drinking water to 2.5 million people in the greater Boston area. The people who lost their homes, their churches, their cemeteries, and their entire communities got a plaque. Boston got the water.
