Either you're an antique person or you're not. If you can't handle this type of thing you're not.
🧱 Wacky Wednesday: Antique Home Edition (1865 Farmhouse!)
When your “support column” looks like it’s holding on for dear life… 😬
This 1865 New England farmhouse had sections of fieldstone foundation that were poorly repaired over the years and badly deteriorated — along with rotted joists, structural movement, wood destroying insect damage and amateur “fixes” that make your stomach turn.
These kinds of makeshift repairs are unfortunately common in older homes across Massachusetts. While they might look like they’re holding things together, they often hide serious structural issues that can be very costly and complex to fix properly.
👉 Always have an experienced home inspector evaluate antique and older homes — especially before you buy. Proper restoration requires understanding how these structures were built, and how to repair them the right way.
