As we move into the weekend and there are forecast of severe weather, and there are predictions of large amounts of snow, I have some simple requests as the Shelbyville Police Chief.
#1
If you are parked along the roadway in your subdivision, try and move the vehicle into your driveway or out of curves as the snow plows and emergency services will need to get through.
#2
Please do not place yourself into a bad situation by being on the roads if you do not have to. Please anticipate your milk and bread needs now.
#3
If you need to be out on the roads, make sure all of your windshields are clear as well as your brake lights and headlights.
#4
Remove snow from the vehicles rooftop. If it has become hard or ice and it flies off, it can cause damage to other vehicles.
#5
If you’re involved in an accident, please call for assistance, but be patient. If emergency services are dispatched to multiple incidents at once, it may take a little time to get to you. If it’s an injury accident, they will take priority.
#6
There may be a time when central dispatch advises callers that non-injury accidents, especially those on private property will need to utilize the Kentucky State Police self reporting form. A link can be found below.
#7
Remember that we also have the interstate to contend with which brings more accidents, motors, assist, and welfare checks.
#8
Lastly, use patience. We may be dispatched to other incidents besides accidents. Remember in severe weather, we still have medical emergencies ,criminal investigations, welfare checks, disturbances, power, outages, etc.
I’m sure that I could update this all day with other requests, but I feel that these are the main ones to help us, other law-enforcement agencies, the fire services, central dispatch, and public works along.
If we are needed, or you witness something that needs our attention, please do not hesitate to call.
