In the schedule of Holy Week, Monday is the day that Jesus "Cleansed the Temple"
On Monday morning, Jesus returned with his disciples to Jerusalem. Along the way, He cursed a fig tree because it had failed to bear fruit. Some scholars believe this cursing of the fig tree represented God's judgment on the spiritually dead religious leaders of Israel. Others believe the symbolism extended to all believers, demonstrating that genuine faith is more than just outward religiosity; true, living faith must bear spiritual fruit in a person's life. Then they came to Jerusalem.
And He entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple, and He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves; and He would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. He was teaching and saying, "Is it not written,
'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? But you have made it a den of robbers."
Monday's events are recorded in Matthew 21:12-22, Mark 11:15-19, Luke 19:45-48, and John 2:13-17.
