Dear NYSAR members,
Governor Cuomo today announced today that "New York on Pause" will be extended until May 15. He said social distancing has helped slow COVID-19 but we must continue to stay the course. The governor said he will re-evaluate as May 15 draws near.
FAQ Update
Yesterday, Governor Cuomo announced his executive order requiring all people in New York to wear masks or face coverings in public. The NYSAR Legal Hotline has since received numerous calls in reference to in-person contact. This was added to our FAQ's on nysarcovidupdates.com today.
Q: Does the Governor’s new Executive Order requiring individuals to cover their nose and mouth with a mask permit licensees to have in-person contact if they abide by the requirement of the EO?
A: No. The EO does not lift the restriction on in-person contact between licensees and members of the public.
BE ALERT FOR SCAMMERS
If you have filed for unemployment benefits and are waiting for a call back from the New York State Department of Labor, please be cautious about providing personal information to callers. The recording on the NYSDOL main line states that before an applicant provides any personal information to a NYSDOL caller, the DOL caller will verify they are calling on behalf of the NYSDOL and will provide the applicant with the claim type and filing date.
Do not respond to e-mails or text messages that ask you to disclose personal information, such as your:
· Social Security number
· Debit card number
· Direct deposit bank account number
· PIN number
If you believe that you have been a victim of unemployment fraud, you can report suspected fraud to the NYSDOL’s toll free hotline at (888) 598-2077 or online at https://labor.ny.gov/secure/fraud/report-fraud.shtm
You should also report this to the FTC and one of the three credit reporting agencies:
Report identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) online at IdentityTheft.gov or by phone at 1-877-438-4338.
Contact one of the three CRAs to reduce the risk of accounts being opened in your name without your authorization. Place the alert by calling either Equifax -- (888) 766-0008, Experian -- (888) 397-3742 or TransUnion -- (800) 680-7289. If you place the alert with one agency, they will notify the other two for you.
