This is a fantastic week to………… (pick something)…….. then do it!!

Took the opportunity to start the week with an encouraging YouTube interview with Pastor Steven Furtick by Brenden Burchard.

Here’s the highlight I took away almost immediately.

Am I STUCK (you….. us….. anyone)?

Steven says it this way:

“Don’t argue for your limitations” (If you argue for your limitations, you get to keep them).

Limitations are rooted in a lie.

“If you agree with God about your potential, you get to grow into them.” God knows what is in you. Remember, Jesus died for us. Switch it up; let’s ground ourselves in faith.

In all statements of lack of confidence, we begin with “because”. Let go of because.

Mindset: I’m not stuck unless I stop.

My go to- get out of the desert. You are only 40 miles to the promised land. Stay stuck or cross the line into the promised land. Read- new job, perfect marriage, strong relationships with family, new land deal.

My dearest friends Paul and Greg say it this way:

“Rejection is protection.”

What do we learn from setbacks? Look beyond the loss.

Happy Monday makes for a great week.

Patience.

As a sure-fire A-Drive guy, not sure I have mastered that one (yet). You know the ole saying: “my will is there but the spirit is weak”.

Lord, Abba Father, are you sure you want me to do this? Wait?

Okay, Lord…... what say you?

2 Peter 3:8-9
The Day the Sky Will Collapse

8-9 Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change. (The Message)

Made a new friend a couple months back.

Life-long farmer from a family of farmers on the same land for 8 generations, starting in 1807.

Farming is his life. Family is everything. Yet, he lost the heartbeat of his soul, his love since high school and wife for 30+ years.

After a year and a half of incomprehensible grief and pain, he chose to take solace on the top of a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Canada.

At one point, a woman shows up at this same distant vantage point with similar pain of loss and life hurts. A conversation began; a budding of friendship bound by the strings of pain and loneliness.

Fast-forward about 18 months, they just got married and began a new adventure in life.

Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the LORD. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (The Message)

Sometimes……… a guy just needs to tell the story.

Whether a buffalo, an eagle or a dirt farmer, we know one thing. There is a God and it ain’t me.

May the rest of your week be filled with patience.

And me? I will continue in hope and expectation. Believe, then see.

Your friend Jeffrey. Living in the present….. most of the time.

Colossians 3:12-14
Friday April 5, 2024, Jamie Smith Church of the City

Paul tells them the key to remain unified is to show compassion and forgiveness toward one another.

12 Since you are all set apart by God, made holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a holy way of life: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Put up with one another. Forgive. Pardon any offenses against one another, as the Lord has pardoned you, because you should act in kind. 14 But above all these, put on love! Love is the perfect tie to bind these together.

Do I recognize love in my life? Even in the midst of pain and hurt; can I see through that tough journey and see love?

For me, it is often easier to write about it…….. until.

Until we step back in time. Try to change what is the now.

Then, just now, as I write, my best friend Paul sends me a note of encouragement.

Season 1, Episode 5 of Mr. Ed (the talking horse). Ole Wilber and his secret talking horse.

Paul is lead by Abba Father and partnered with the Holy Spirit. In obedience, Paul brought me back to the present. Humor. Memories of my Buckskin gelding and I riding into the mountains above Canyon City Oregon. A recurring adventure every day in the summer of 1961. A town of 600 people. Cattle country. Timber country.

An escape from dysfunctional family. Amazing adventures. Wild horses, Protected Indian burial grounds (that was likely my imagination at 11 years old).

I would leave home at 5am and finally return as the sun was going down. What I quickly learned as I rode closer to home…… the sun goes down much later at the top of the mountain than in the valley below. I would usually get home at 1AM or later.
At 11 years old and no one but me and Buckskin. Alone. Almost anything could happen and often did. Just don’t tell my great granddaughters (especially Harper).

Wishes and dreams. Hopes and unexpected blessings. They are here waiting for us in the present.

The day after Easter for two years in a row, we lost our beloved wife, mother, gramma and GG and then Dylan. Doesn’t seem real…….. until the pain returns.

I have learned from my new love Toni to acknowledge the pain, don’t stuff it, weep if I must then put it back on the shelf.

Today, my dearest friend Paul brought me back to the present.

That is love.

May the day bring you love, cherished memories and joy.

We’re off to Huntsville for another adventure. One brought to us through divine appointments and a family of history of farming the same land for 212 years.

May your adventures be lead by the One that offers it all. Jesus, Lord and Savior.

Your friend Jeffrey. Living in the present, most of the time. (and sweet memories of me and ole Buckskin)

Ciao for now.

Good morning y'all.

Fresh start- COTC DAILY (Church of the City)
April 3, 2024

For years, the Daily was my anchor, my focus each morning. Through tough times and happy times, it refreshed my heart and mind.

Then life hits hard and we disappear. My love of 52 years, hit by a massive heart attack and gone in hours. Regret; what-ifs; anger; grief; horrific tears and moaning.

Then divine appointment. Thank you, Dr. Toni, for your friendship and love. As you say, at the third quarter time in life, we will take this journey together.

Not again!! The painful loss of my grandson. A year later almost to the day, more pain and sorrow and unresolved guilt. This loss took it out of me for almost 9 months. I could not write.

Then another miracle at the Waffle House and Miss Kesha on Dylan’s birthday. Joy. Memories. Sass. Laughter. And so much more. There’s a story there that I will share another time. Our angel Miss Kesha and the shelter of Jesus reset my joy for writing and staying present in the moment while celebrating life.

It is now time to reset the bar for His glory. Back to the roots of my faith and daily disciplines.

I fell a little behind. I began this on Monday, April 1 and now it’s April 3, 2024. Discipline. If it has value, begin with discipline.

I always like to share in bite-size chunks. I will post my thoughts on various topics and some personal stories in the coming days. As for the COTC Daily – it’s good stuff. I will post the catch-up a bit later today.

Make this mid-week day one of your best.

Your friend, Jeffrey. Living in the present - most of the time.

Among the buzz of new construction projects in the Huntsville area, one stands out as a hot topic of conversation among locals – the eagerly anticipated "SkyBridge" project!

This $62 million endeavor is set to transform the landscape as a multimodal pedestrian access and redevelopment corridor (PARC), promising enhanced connectivity and urban revitalization.

Construction is slated to commence this August, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey towards a more vibrant and accessible Huntsville.

Construction on the much-ballyhooed "Skybridge Project" in Huntsville is set to begin in August.

Good Monday to you all today. Are we having fun yet?

Music. It’s part of the who and why of people. At its core, it’s storytelling. Regardless of style or genre, music is part of who we are as people.

Most often, it’s the energy in the morning to start the day dancing.

Sometimes it’s country. Sometimes it’s soft jazz; maybe even a little Frank Sinatra. American Idol, AGT, The Voice. Fun and often surprising winners.

Sunday is the day I dedicate to my faith. It allows me to shout for joy, weep if necessary and YUP, dance some too. A dear friend of mine is 86. Judd can often be seen at the back of the congregation, dancing, singing, and waiving small flags. Nothing crazy; just pure celebration.

Yesterday, this song at Church of the City had me in a roller coaster of emotions. Sometimes a guy just has to roll with it. Laughing one minute, dancing the next and a soft evidence of tears.

Then this:

I Believe it! Jon Reddick

“It’s not just a story.
It’s a livin’, breathin’, walkin’ testimony.
Of a God so good, He’d leave his home in glory.
For the world He loved, for the world that He so loved.
He’s not just a story, eh.
I believe in the life of Jesus,
I believe that he conquered death.
I believe in the resurrection.
I believe He’s comin’ back again.
I believe that His Spirit is with us.
I believe that he gives us power.
I believe that He is the son of God.
I believe it, I believe it.

How ‘bout you?

Come and see…….
John 1:46. Nathanael answered him, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Philip replied, “Come and see.”

First, moms are the greatest. Today would have been Mom’s 100th birthday. Wow. Dad’s pet name was Cherokee Jew.

Perhaps due to the slight hook nose.

In truth, my wife Pammie did a full-blown genealogy drill……. Uranian Jew back many generations. Momma Edna was very much a protective Jewish Mother and a converted “born-again-Christian”.

Thank you, Pammie; give Mom a hug for me in those heavenly places. I know she’s still telling that knee surgery story.

This Easter marks 2 years. How is that possible? Thank you for a life time of love and strength you delivered to our rather large family.

And, yup…… Learning to stay in the present takes time. I am thankful for family, great partners, and a new relationship. More on CW tomorrow.

Your friend Jeffrey. Living in the present….. most of the time.
