A new chapter begins in Highlands, NC!

We’re excited to officially open the doors to Vignette Realty of Highlands inside the historic Shakespeare building, a place with more than 25 years of Highlands history. Special thanks to Sean and Cindy Murphy. You found a way to preserve the character, history, and soul of the past while thoughtfully creating something that belongs to the future.

Surrounded by friends, family, local businesses, and the Highlands Chamber of Commerce, we celebrated not just a new location, but our growing connection to a community we truly love.

Sharing this special space with the incredible fine art photography of Michele makes it even more meaningful.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the ribbon cutting and helped make this day one to remember. We can’t wait to welcome you in, build new relationships, and help more people find their story in Highlands.

There’s something special about the locally owned businesses that give Highlands its small-town charm.

We stopped by The Secret Garden to visit with Rachel, a Highlands native and classically trained chef who returned home with a vision of creating a welcoming place for families, locals, and visitors.

Known for freshly pressed sandwiches, homemade soups, charcuterie boards, catering, private dinners, and Saturday w**e tastings, The Secret Garden has become a true gathering place in the community. One of Rachel’s favorite parts? Watching local kids walk over after school for chips and drinks or grab sandwiches before a ball game.

Rachel also shares what it was like growing up in Highlands, from sledding down Main Street and spending afternoons at waterfalls to exploring some of her favorite places like Whiteside Mountain, Glen Falls, and Sunset Rock.

Highlands may have grown, but its heart remains the same, locally owned businesses, beautiful mountains, friendly people, and a community that still feels like home.
