5 COSTLY MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WHEN BUYING LAND 🌿
That beautiful 10-acre property may look like the perfect place to build your dream—but buying land is about far more than the view.
Here are 5 mistakes that can turn your dream property into an expensive lesson:
1. Assuming you can build wherever you want.
Zoning, setbacks, easements, flood zones, deed restrictions and road frontage requirements can dramatically affect what you can do with your land.
2. Not checking the soil before buying.
If you’re relying on septic, the soil matters. A failed or limited soil evaluation can change where—or even whether—you can build the home you envisioned.
3. Underestimating the cost of utilities.
Getting water, electricity, internet or a well to your homesite can sometimes cost far more than buyers anticipate.
4. Ignoring the land itself.
Drainage, topography, wetlands, access, mature trees and even where the sun rises and sets can affect everything from your homesite to your barn, pasture and garden.
5. Buying land before creating the vision.
How many homes might eventually be on the property? Will aging parents live there someday? Adult children? Do you want animals, gardens, barns or additional structures?
The land should fit the life you want to build—not force you to change the dream after you buy it.
At Land Legacy Collective, we’re not just helping you buy acreage. We’re helping you thoughtfully and prayerfully consider what that land could become for your family today—and for generations to come. 🌿🏡
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”
