Two thousand twenty. You sounded so pretty at the beginning of the year. But Woah, you packed a punch.
This was not a year for the weary. It challenged EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. OF. US, no matter how rosy our pages looked. So for all of those that prefer the more transparent me, here it goes.
2020 was my most successful and busiest real estate year to date. (uh, hello all you californians, we see you moving here!)๐พ๐ฅ And I did work hard and purposeful and implemented new business strategies along the way. After all, Corbi and Company is just over 3 years old and I have learned that having a strong sidekick makes life more enjoyable. (kudos to you Jennifer) Starting in march, and the realization of Covid, I got to spend alot (A-L-O-T) of time with Tony and Gia, and truthfully felt like the luckiest person in the world. Don't you remember those first "naive" weeks when we all just watched alot of movies, played games as a family and slowed down? Just thinking that it would only last a month or 2? Whew. We-Were-Super Duper-Wrong.
Luckily, my job in Real Estate can happen from almost anywhere, and I am not ashamed to say some of you went under contract on a home while I was in pajamas. There, I said it.
This year we did something I always wanted to do. We built a pool! Of course, we finished it with only 2 swims left in the season, so we are excited about getting to use it in 2021. Ok, I will be honest. I plan to float, as this girl hates getting her hair wet.
I had wrist surgery, and kidney surgery (oh, ya didn't hear?) But somehow I managed to still make work calls from the hospital bed. Gia and I caught the dreaded covid, Tony was spared. We survived, but had friends who did not. For those families, my heart still hurts for them. Gia broke her wrist, elbow, foot and elbow again. And never complained. Good lesson for me, because I would have maybe said a few too many curse words if I had been in her shoes.๐
All of our travel plans were cancelled. And I had a lot of well thought trips. It's probably my favorite thing to plan. Something about changes of scenery soothes my soul. But for 2020, besides one beach trip early in the year and a trip to Universal with gia and a friend (We plan to make that a tradition btw!), it wasn't in the cards. (Sorry San Diego, Turks and caicos, San Antonio, Palmetto Bluff, and more. See ya soon?)โค
My Dad died this year. It was unexpected and not virus related. We hadn't talked in years, but I did get to chat on the phone with him for a minute or 2. In a strange way, he did me a favor by letting me go 5 years ago. It made it sting less. The blessing in that, was bringing my Mom back closer in to our lives. We finally got to go have Sunday dinners at her house, and all of us have embraced having a more "normal" family dynamic than we did before.
I couldn't make this post without saying THANK YOU to each of you that sent your friends and families and coworkers to me when you just heard the word real estate! It's how my business world spins !๐ My pride and joy, gia, is turning into a pre-teen and is still loving her craft of brazilian jiu-jitsu. She dreams of building a hotel one day, (with the best concierge lounge around), and a fancy restaurant that serves exotic food. And don't forget the roller coaster you get to ride if you stay in a suite. She is keeping it real, and setting goals!๐ฏ I literally love my crazy, little family more than you would think is possible. After all, we have been wiping down plane seats and trays with clorox wipes for years. Thank you all for now joining us. and please don't ever stop sanitizing yo' hands! ๐๐
So for the sappy part of my post? (You didnt think I could *completely* leave that out, did you?)
Thank you to all of you who came into my world this year. You have taught me invaluable and varied lessons, even if you didnt know it. Some were hard lessons, some were even comical, some moments were like ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!
But for the most part, there was a lot of good that came out this year. Alot of realizing what is important. So please, all of you, stick around for 2021---we will all be better for this past year. Different and changed? Yes. But somehow let's all be better versions. Let's walk into 2021 and take no prisoners.
XOXO-Corbi
