The story of Armistead began long before the first seed was ever planted.

For generations, this land was cared for by the Short family, who chose stewardship over shortcuts and envisioned a future that honored its history instead of replacing it.

Today, we’re proud to share that Armistead Farm is officially incorporated as a 501(c)(3), marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. What was once family farmland is becoming a working market farm where agriculture, education, and community can thrive together, right here within Franklin’s city limits.

As one family member shared with NewsChannel 5, they often asked themselves, “Five years from now, ten years from now, would we be proud of what became of this land?” The answer became Armistead. 🌱

On 200 acres just outside Franklin, we're creating an agricultural village where full-scale farming and everyday life exist side by side, crop fields and front porches share the same address, and people of all generations can live, work, learn, and eat in a way that keeps the land at the center of everything.

This plot of land is where the origin story of Armistead begins. And as we know, most things worth having take generations to build. Armistead is one of them.

Since 1887, when the Short family began to farm their nearly 200 acres west of Franklin, Tennessee, this land has fed, nurtured, and sustained generations of their family, as well as others in the community.
