“Go to your stores. Lock the doors. Get the customers out.” 😳
That’s what Gwen says she and the other Painted Tree managers were told on the call announcing the company’s Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

I met Gwen completely by chance while I was filming at The Collective Boutiques in Franklin—and when I learned she had previously been a Painted Tree manager in Madison, I had SO many questions.

So I asked her.

What happened to Painted Tree—and how did The Collective Boutiques come to be?

What followed was a completely candid, unplanned conversation about the day Painted Tree closed, what vendors were told, and how Gwen ultimately went from managing at Painted Tree to becoming the manager of The Collective Boutiques here in Franklin.

If you’ve been wondering what happened—or you’ve driven past the old Painted Tree location and wondered what’s there now—this one’s for you.
