In two months in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, the 38th Annual Apple Harvest Festival kicks off in the charming little town of Waynesville, NC! Regularly voted one of the “10 Best Fall Harvest Festivals in the Nation,” this huge fall celebration fills historic Main Street on Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The day is packed with mountain-grown apples, fresh apple cider, warm apple fritters, pies, tarts, caramel apples, turnovers, and plenty of other fall treats. You can also see old-fashioned traditions like fresh cider pressing and hand-cranked homemade ice cream while taking in the sights and smells of apple season in Western North Carolina.

Nearly 200 arts and crafts booths stretch through downtown, filled with handmade jewelry, pottery, artwork, yard decorations, textiles, gifts, and other Appalachian-made goods. Live music adds to the atmosphere throughout the day, with regional bluegrass, clogging, heritage dancing, and other performances bringing traditional mountain culture right onto Main Street. Between festival stops, you can browse Waynesville’s downtown shops and restaurants while enjoying colorful fall scenery in the surrounding Smoky Mountains. Admission is free, making it an easy full-day fall outing in one of Western North Carolina’s most scenic mountain towns.

🎇 Labor Day Weekend Fireworks - Saturday, September 5🎇

Representatives from the Town of Franklin were able to meet with Munnerlyn Pyrotechnics, the vendor used for the July 4th celebration, and they will be providing a free of charge fireworks re-do on Saturday, September 5, 2026 in downtown Franklin. “Owners Brent and Lindsey Munnerlyn were very apologetic about the technical malfunction on the fourth and want to be sure that Macon County receives the great fireworks display that was promised,” said Town Manager Amie Owens. They will personally be shooting the show.

This show will be an end of summer and Labor Day celebration. The number of fireworks will be greater than the original show and the Town has been told there would be a little something extra included. Angel Medical Center has generously allowed for the show to be launched from the old hospital property and Events Coordinator Sabrina Scruggs has been able to schedule a special Pickin’ on the Square featuring Mission Accomplished to help kick of the celebration.

Main Street will be closed beginning at 6:00 p.m. to allow for spectators to bring their lawn chairs to set up in advance of the show. Approximately 15 minutes before the show, a test shot will be fired so that attendees can determine if they are in a good spot for viewing. The social district will operate as usual until 9:00 p.m.
