Out of office for a bit 💜 Please reach out to Amy Adams. I might even be back today 🤞🏻 but most likely tomorrow or Friday. Can’t be talking to clients while still having anesthesia in my system or all of you will be getting multiple cats 😂
Good evening all,
This is not the post I wanted to make following my health update from 5/14 but here we are and here we go.
After my health update to you all, I needed to have some general testing and imaging for my upcoming surgery on 7/13 completed so that the surgeon could get the best picture possible of what surgery would be like that day. Unfortunately, one test lead to another, led to another and it just kept continuing to show some not promising signs.
Yesterday, I received a call from the oncology nurse saying that it was imperative that I come in today for a meeting. I did not know what it was about. Because of this, I called my best friend crying and to be honest, kind of hyperventilating and in true friend fashion, she dropped everything and came with me.
Bottom line, I am unfortunately going into emergency surgery tomorrow morning. The tests are coming back with grave concerns of live/active cancer. If I have live/active cancer, depending on the type, there are two options. Isolated where, instead of robotic, they would have to cut my entire abdomen open and remove all of the previously mentioned organs in tact and not disturb them. VERY ROUGH recovery and VERY, VERY high risk for strokes for me. Or, active cancer that is not isolated and my 7/13 surgery would be canceled and I would shortly after begin cancer treatment and go from there. This second option is very rare for my particular case but the chances are not zero. OR, we could have what we originally thought in my post on 5/14 and continue that route. But right now, things keep pointing to the latter. We can not wait to know.
I can not name everything that will be done tomorrow but I will try. D&C to gather ALL the cells. Needle biopsies of lymph nodes and anything else. Biopsy punches-many; as many areas as they feel are concerning. Cone procedure. Something about injecting everything with dye to see if they can get any additional information about bad cells and blood flow. Also something about freezing certain areas. At this point, my brain just heard, you’re coming in tomorrow to the OR.
My 7/13 OR spot is still held. How it will be performed is determined on tomorrow. Those results will be back in about four business days and I have an appointment with my oncologist on 6/18 while we are in Hilton Head to discuss the plan for surgery or treatment.
My team today rushed me into pre-op bloodwork, and that has already come back. I am an add on surgery so I will get to the hospital tomorrow right away but I do not know when I will go back. My phone will be off and this will probably be your last update until I’m not sure when. Hopefully tomorrow evening but maybe Thursday. I have to shower tonight and tomorrow with a special solution and I will not be allowed to be submerged in water for a few weeks. Small price to pay even with our Hilton Head trip.
This is all over the place but as usual, I’m going to share because I need everyone to please get their yearly appointments done. Please. This is how I got here and how we found out about Emmie’s cancer. Both from a yearly well visit. Please don’t wait.
To family who dropped everything to be with the kids and Leo today and also tomorrow, thank you. To the sweetest neighbor Caitlin for playing with Leo tomorrow, he will probably have more fun with you than me 😘 To Tara for the beautiful timing of seeing and hugging her today. And to my very sweetest friend who said ‘Just say you want me to be there’ and was; she said I could have done it alone but I didn’t want to and I couldn’t be more glad that I didn’t. Having her there was beyond words. I am SO lucky.
Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day. I will see you all soon. Xo
