A lot of our recent posts have suggested a change in our lives. And indeed, we have made one. A big one. Long overdue and oh so grateful and blessed to have made it. There comes a time in your life where you realize that places, people, and things are not right for you any longer. They have run their course. They have grown stale. And even more so, they may have polluted the best of you. Life is too short to live it that way.

Change is formidable. And it can be oppressive and difficult. But with change comes NEW. And with change comes BETTER. God is good. We have been led to a place where people are SO FRIENDLY, SO SUPPORTIVE. People we already knew and brand new strangers turning into friends. They know how to step up and anticipate needs and be great neighbors without even being asked.

This place has so much to do for fun, social and for our health that we will run out of time NOT options. We have already signed up for dances and dinners. We have joined the golf group and will play in the final tournament of the year with the group. We have spearheaded an RV group as many of our neighbors are RV’ers.

We are within minutes of our church and church family. That means more volunteering, more interaction and more worship. We are close to our JOBS – well ok real estate isn’t a job it is a passion. And we are near restaurants galore, and history and culture. The grocery stores abound with choices. Farmer’s markets are in all directions. And those necessary evils like doctors and hospitals are close when needed.

Our beautiful new house is turning into the perfect home for both of us. The yard is much smaller meaning far less to do. The house is perfect. We both have our offices, he has his wood working shop and THE MAN CAVE GARAGE! I have my craft room. We both have a gym at home and in the community. We have another lower level complete with bar, pool table and movie station for sharing with neighbors and friends. And we are a hop skip and a jump from day trips (like yesterday) and now able to plan our anticipated European 15-30 day stays! Happy? YES! Blessed? YES. Loving life? YES

Each part of our journey shapes us. The past four years have held some great times, beautiful sunsets and also some things already forgotten!

Today! Happy Birthday to the U.S. Army and hope everyone has a wonderful Flag Day! Fly them high and proudly!

Local FYI:

•On Friday, the Army officially turns 249. The birthday will be celebrated everywhere there are soldiers, particularly in the U.S. capitol region.
•The Army will honor fallen service members at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery with the annual wreath-laying ceremony beginning Friday at 9 a.m. This event is free and open to the public.
•The Pentagon will host the Army birthday cake-cutting and reenlistment ceremony Friday at 11:30 a.m. The event features 30 soldiers who will reaffirm their oaths to the Constitution. This event will be livestreamed online.
•The National Museum of the U.S. Army in Fort Belvoir, Va., will host the Army Birthday Festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will include performances by the Army Field Band and demonstrations of Army vehicles and equipment, including a parachute demonstration. The museum will also be open to visitors during the event. Festival tickets are free but must be reserved in advance on their website.
•On June 18 at 5:30 p.m., the Washington Nationals will play their annual U.S. Army Day game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Nationals will be joined by Army leaders and personnel to mark the birthday and celebrate service members and veterans. Active-duty servicemembers, reservists and veterans are eligible for two complimentary tickets to the game, which can be claimed with a valid military ID at Nationals Park’s box office beginning at 5:30 p.m. on game day.

The Army also celebrates its history through weekly Twilight Tattoo live events, which are hosted Wednesdays between May and July at Joint-Base Myer Henderson Hall in Arlington, Va. This event sees performances by members of the Old Guard, the oldest active-duty infantry regiment, and the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.”
