Thousands of children across the region will have access to free breakfasts and lunches this summer through a program beginning Monday at the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.

The program provides weekly meal kits for children 18 and younger while school is out for the summer. Each kit includes seven breakfasts and seven lunches at no cost to families.

Families can register for pick up meal kits at locations in Caroline, King George, Locust Grove, Spotsylvania, and Stafford. Families in Caroline and King George who are unable to get to a pickup location may be able to have meals delivered to their homes.

The summer meal program runs through August 7. Registration is required, and families must choose either pick up or home delivery service.

This one means a lot to me and comes from the heart...

As a mom with a son in law enforcement and daughter who is a teacher, I see what it really looks like to show up for others—long hours, hard days, and not a lot of recognition.

And it made me start noticing how many people around us are doing the same thing in their own way… teachers, nurses, volunteers, neighbors who just always step up.

It feels like something we don’t celebrate enough.
