Representing the Great Lakes Bay Region homeowners and future homeowners, Jaime is committed to listening to her clients’ needs and utilizing her negotiation skills to ensure a successful transaction! Bond Proposal vs. Sinking Fund… what’s the actual difference? 🏫💸
When local school ballot proposals pop up, it’s easy to get confused by the terminology. Both fund public projects, but they work completely differently!
Here’s the quick breakdown:
🏛️ BOND PROPOSAL = The Mortgage
* The district borrows a large lump sum upfront and pays it back over 15–30 years (with interest).
* Best for: Massive projects like building a brand-new school, major additions, or complete site overhaul.
🐖 SINKING FUND = The Savings Account
* District collects cash yearly on a lower millage rate to pay for projects as they go (zero interest/debt).
* Best for: Ongoing maintenance, new roofs, HVAC repairs, security upgrades, or tech updates.
🚫 What NEITHER can pay for:
Teacher salaries, benefits, or daily utility bills. By law, these funds must go strictly toward property and capital updates!
