MYTH: An inherited property must stay in the family.

FACT: Not necessarily.

When a loved one passes away and leaves behind a home, many families assume they are obligated to keep the property because of sentimental value or family expectations.

The reality is that beneficiaries often have several options:
1. Keep the property and live in it
2. Rent the property for income
3. Transfer ownership to another heir
4. Sell the property and divide the proceeds

Every family's situation is different.

Sometimes keeping the home makes financial sense. Other times, selling may be the best solution—especially if the property requires repairs, has ongoing expenses, or multiple heirs are involved.

The most important thing is making an informed decision that aligns with your family's goals, finances, and future plans.

Understanding the probate process can help families protect their assets and avoid unnecessary stress during an already difficult time.
