Most people come to Follet’s Island for the waves, sunsets, and seashells…but the island has another wild resident that has learned to thrive between the dunes, marshes, and coastline — the coastal coyotes of Follet’s Island, Texas. 🐾🌾

Smaller and leaner than many inland coyotes, these intelligent island survivors have adapted to life by the Gulf. Often seen at sunrise or dusk near the dunes and nature reserves, they quietly roam the beaches and grassy marshlands helping maintain the delicate balance of wildlife on the island.

Coyotes here are incredibly resourceful. They can travel long distances along the shoreline, hunt small prey hidden in the grasses, and even leave paw prints beside the tide line before disappearing back into the sea oats. Their haunting nighttime calls are part of the true soundtrack of coastal Texas living.

On Follet’s Island, nature still has room to breathe. From shore birds and sea turtles to the elusive island coyotes, every creature plays a part in what makes this stretch of Texas coastline feel so untamed and unforgettable.
