When you are a buyer, placing your best offer is how to obtain the dream home.
One factor a seller looks at is the offered price, but another factor is the earnest money deposit.

According to the California Association of Realtors, the earnest money is defined as "the deposit given by a buyer to a seller to show that the buyer is serious about purchasing the home. Earnest money usually is refundable to homebuyers in the event a contingency of the sales contract cannot be met."
