Did you defer your mortgage payment during COVID? Forbearance Ends 9/30/2021

The Mortgage Relief Plan under the Federal Cares Act ends September 30, 2021. It had been assumed that most of the 2.3 million homeowners nationwide that have participated in this forbearance program would be offered a workable solution by their lenders so that they might not need to sell their homes to repay the unpaid mortgage debt – especially since property values have increased. This may not be the case. Beginning late last week two national mortgage companies began sending notices to their mortgage holders who have participated in the forbearance program. In part the notices read:

You have three options:
Payment in full of entire forbearance
Double mortgage payment until forbearance amount totally repaid
Sell your home
