If you're buying a home in North Texas, three Collin County cities just received national recognition for something every homeowner cares about: safety. A new study from home security company Vivint ranked McKinney No. 2 and Frisco No. 4 among America's safest cities for new homeowners, with neighboring Plano coming in at No. 11. The study evaluated 93 U.S. cities using property crime rates, homeowner demographics and security related employment, with property crime accounting for the largest portion of each city's score. According to the findings, McKinney recorded 680 property crimes per 100,000 residents, while Frisco reported 789.4, placing both among the three lowest property crime rates in the study. The rankings come as Frisco and McKinney continue experiencing major residential and commercial growth, with new neighborhoods, businesses and developments transforming communities that looked very different just a decade ago. But there's an important distinction behind the numbers: the rankings also consider how many younger homeowners and recent movers live in each city, meaning they aren't a definitive measure of overall public safety. Still, having three Collin County cities in the national top 15 is a notable result for an area attracting new families and homeowners every year, especially as Frisco, McKinney and Plano continue balancing rapid growth with the qualities that made people want to move here in the first place. The bigger question is whether these communities can maintain those strong property crime numbers as North Texas continues to expand.

🎉 After years of Frisco residents waiting and months of uncertainty surrounding the project, Trader Joe’s is officially moving forward in Frisco. The Frisco City Council unanimously approved the development on Oct. 6, clearing the way for the city’s first Trader Joe’s as part of a new 9.4 acre mixed use development at the southwest corner of Main Street and Majestic Gardens Drive. Plans call for a 12,500 square foot Trader Joe’s, along with a 158 unit senior living community and other improvements to the property. The project has gone through two years of discussions and multiple revisions, including additional parking, more open space, landscaping improvements and changes based on feedback from residents and city staff. The proposal had already received Planning and Zoning Commission approval in July before the City Council tabled it in August, making Tuesday night’s unanimous approval the major hurdle residents had been waiting on. Trader Joe’s and the senior living community are expected to be built during the same phase, and the senior facility cannot open until the grocery store does. For longtime Frisco residents who have watched neighboring cities get Trader Joe’s while repeatedly asking when one would finally arrive here, the approval settles one question, but there is still no construction timeline, contractor or opening date, meaning Frisco’s long wait for Trader Joe’s isn’t quite over yet.

At a time when school budgets and taxpayer dollars are getting plenty of attention, Frisco ISD just received a perfect score from the state for how it manages its finances. The district earned 100 out of 100 points and an “A” Superior rating in Texas’ 2025-26 Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, or FIRST, which evaluates school districts using financial data from the previous fiscal year. The rating is based on 21 indicators covering financial management and reporting, and Frisco ISD says it has also passed a balanced budget for the past three years and refinanced debt in 2025-26 in a move projected to save taxpayers $152.2 million in future interest payments. About 82% of Texas school districts received an A under this year’s FIRST system, so the rating is specifically about financial management, not the separate academic accountability grades families may be more familiar with. Frisco ISD presented the result at its September board meeting, adding another data point to the larger conversation about how the fast growing district manages money as future facility and funding decisions continue taking shape.

🏠 Frisco’s housing market just beat nearly every major city in America. A new WalletHub analysis ranked Frisco the #1 real estate market in the U.S., placing it ahead of 299 other cities evaluated across housing strength, affordability and economic conditions. Frisco wasn’t alone at the top either, McKinney ranked #2, Denton #5 and Allen #8, putting four North Texas cities in the national top 10. One major reason Frisco stood out is just how new the city’s housing stock is: nearly 47% of Frisco homes were built between 2010 and 2024, potentially meaning fewer major maintenance headaches for buyers compared with older markets. Frisco also ranked 7th for job growth, strengthening its appeal as more families and businesses continue moving into the area. But there’s a catch...Frisco certainly isn’t one of America’s cheapest housing markets, ranking 95th for home prices as a percentage of income. Still, the combination of newer homes, economic growth and long term housing potential was enough to push Frisco to the very top. With billions in development still pouring into the city, the bigger question may be how much more Frisco can grow, and what that could mean for future home prices.
