🚨Today I read a post from a fellow female appraiser in another state who had a terrifying experience while simply doing her job. I don’t know all the details, but she was verbally assaulted and threatened with physical harm.

It stopped me in my tracks.

It made me reflect on the risks I take every single day when I enter properties—vacant, occupied, tenant-occupied, or under construction. Even with a scheduled appointment and a lockbox code, the risk is real.

So when I ask whether a property is vacant or occupied, or who will be meeting me on site, please know this: I am asking first and foremost for my safety.

As a female appraiser with over 20 years of experience, I’ve learned to always be aware of my surroundings. I lock the front door behind me. I trust my instincts. Sometimes I bring my husband as my bodyguard. Sometimes I have even requested a police es**rt.

These precautions allow me to continue doing my job professionally, thoroughly, and safely. The better prepared I am for the appointment, the better I can focus on the job at hand while on-site. 🙌🏡😍
