As we head into Independence Day weekend, we can’t think of a better time to celebrate the progress being made here on the square in Gainesboro.
The next chapter of Cordell Hotel is taking shape.
Over the last several weeks, our team has been carefully preparing this century-old historical treasure for the future. And while some changes are easy to see from the sidewalk, some of the most important work has been happening inside:
-Completing selective interior demolition
-Removing old storefront systems to prepare for restoration
-Installing structural support to protect the historic building
-Pouring new footings and beginning permanent structural improvements
-Restoring masonry, creating necessary brick openings and beginning exterior tuckpointing
-Cleaning original brick and repairing window details
-Preparing the elevator area to thoughtfully bring modern comfort and accessibility into the space
The best part? Many of the hands restoring the hotel belong to local businesses here in the Upper Cumberland, including Twin Lakes, AJ Electrical, IOM Plumbing, Lakeside Termite & Pest Control, LLC H&H Hardware & Lumber, and Brown’s Recycling. These aren’t just names on a subcontractor list. They’re neighbors helping preserve a piece of Gainesboro’s history. We’re proud of these partnerships and will continue highlighting them throughout the renovation.
Long before the first guest arrives, Cordell is already doing what we hoped it would.
