A condo and a PUD can look almost identical — but when it comes to getting a loan, they can be very different.

In Part 2 of my condo lending series, I’m breaking down the difference between a condominium and a PUD (Planned Unit Development) and why knowing which one you’re dealing with matters.

Condo lending has become increasingly restrictive, while a property classified as a PUD may be treated very differently by the lender. And you can’t always tell just by looking at the property.

Sometimes, the answer comes down to the legal description.

If you’re buying an attached home, townhouse, condo, or something that seems to fall somewhere in between, make sure you know how the property is legally classified before you get too far into the process.
