Spent July 3rd downtown with the family, watching the jets roar over DC.
Hot day. The kind where your shirt sticks to your back and you don't even care, because the energy around you carries you right through it.
I still don't have the words for what those flyovers do to you. The ground shakes. Everyone goes quiet, then loud all at once. Kids up on shoulders, strangers pointing at the same patch of sky.
We met people who drove in from all over the country just to stand there with us. Different states, different accents, same reason for showing up. It's hard not to feel something when you're shoulder to shoulder with people who love this place as much as you do.
I held my kids and just felt lucky. Lucky to be here. Lucky to be raising them here. Days like today remind me not to take a single piece of it for granted.
Happy almost 4th from our family to yours. 🇺🇸
