I never expected one of my most important appointments this past week would be a stuffed animal rescue mission.

A few days ago, I was showing a home to one of my clients. Later that day, I got a message that the daughter's favorite stuffed animal was missing. They thought she may have left it at the house, but we had no idea where it could be. Then her Mom said, "Maybe check the closet."

So I drove back to the house, unlocked the door, and started looking. Sure enough... there it was, tucked away in the closet. I couldn't stop thinking about how sad she must have been without her favorite stuffy, and I was so relieved we found it.

Helping people buy and sell homes is what I do, but sometimes it's these little moments that remind me this job is really about people. And I'd say this rescue mission was definitely worth the trip.

The average cup of coffee in Santa Fe is $5.00. Meanwhile, the median price of a home in the Santa Fe area is around six hundred thousand dollars right now. That means if you skipped one coffee per day, you could save up enough cash to buy your dream house in.... just over four hundred and fifty years.

This is why I think it's pretty dumb advice to tell people to skip out on simple luxuries to save for a house. The math just doesn't add up.

It's better to focus on the BIG things in your budget (car payment, always paying your credit card, student loans) than to worry too much about buying a coffee.

Sometimes the little things in life are what keep us sane, so we can have the discipline to make responsible decisions on the big things!

Here are 10 Fun Facts about me!

1. I was named Melodie because my dad is a musician. I grew up in a music store and learned to play piano at a very young age.
2. I carry my grandfather's (Pampa) thermos to work with me. It helps me feel close to him, and reminds me that character, integrity and a strong work ethic are legacies worth carrying forward.
3. I was once attacked by a monkey in Brazil that was trying to steal a souvenir bag!
4. Before I was a real estate agent I was a Kindergarten teacher! (Yes..that's my real ID)
5.. I also owned an after-school care program, where I had the privilege of being a part of so many children's lives. Those little hugs, big smiles, and everyday moments will always have a special place in my heart.
6. I'm a lifelong learner. You'll usually find me reading something about personal growth, leadership or becoming the best version of myself. I love to lead book studies!
7. I used to teach women's fitness classes, including boxing. Watching women discover their strength and confidence is special to witness.
8. I am very adventurous!! I didn't get my passport until I was 38 years old. Since then I have traveled to 10 different countries.
9. I have FOUR children. Being a mom is my greatest blessing. My children have shaped me into the woman I am today and continue to teach me more than they'll ever know.
10. I truly believe every season of life has a purpose, and I'm grateful my journey has led me to where I am today.

Congratulations to Shelly and Randy on their beautiful new home! It was such an honor to hand over the keys as they prepare to welcome their first baby this fall. Helping them find the perfect place for this exciting new chapter has been incredibly special.

Their kindness, genuine hearts, and inspiring love story made this journey one I'll always remember. Thank you both for trusting me to guide you through such an important milestone. I can't wait to see all the memories your family will make within these walls.

I firmly believe that buying a house at a young age is one of the absolute best things you can do. Will owning a house make you “rich?” Of course not. But it lays a financial foundation where every month you’re building equity in SOMETHING. This is not insignificant.

Making progress towards a goal is addicting (in a good way), and it eventually shows up in other areas of your life. The younger you learn this, the better.

More important than the money itself is the mindset this habit unlocks.

Every goal in life worth pursuing is going to take a long time….and it’s going to require ongoing consistency more than temporary intensity. Too many people are trying to get rich quick when they should be focused on getting rich slowly.

In any endeavor, the price of success is usually just doing the same boring things over and over again….that most people aren’t willing to do. This is what creates results in the gym, in business, and ultimately in life.

This is why cultivating the emotional discipline to pay a monthly mortgage is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

It’s more than a mortgage, it’s about the type of person it helps you to become.

Three years ago, Diego and Ursula came to me during one of the hardest seasons of their lives to help sell their son’s home after a heartbreaking loss.
