🚗 SoHum Classic Car Show :September 26 Redwood Drive turns into a showcase of rare and iconic cars and motorcycles from decades past, right in downtown Garberville. A fun one for car people and non-car people alike — great excuse to grab coffee downtown and stroll.

🎃 Garberville Halloween Festival October 31 , Town Square A local tradition for going on 38 years now. Costume contests for all ages, trunk-or-treat, a dance contest under the Town Clock : this one's pure small-town charm.

🏆 SHBVB Awards November.The Southern Humboldt Business & Visitors Bureau wraps the season honoring the local businesses that make this community what it is. Keep an eye out for details as the date firms up.

Happy Friday from Southern Humboldt 🌲☀️

Today was one of those days that reminded me why I enjoy doing real estate here so much.

My buyers came to Humboldt from out of state to be closer to their son, and I had the privilege of taking them through Fort Seward while we were out looking at property. Along the way we stopped and talked about the old Shell station, the one-room schoolhouse, the old train depot, and some of the history surrounding the mill and the fort.

For me, those places are familiar. They are part of the landscape I grew up around. But getting to share them with people who are genuinely interested in where they are moving made the day feel a little different.

What I really appreciated was that they are not just looking for a house. They are interested in becoming part of the community. They were asking about the history, local fundraisers, events, and ways to participate in the area. That means something to me.

Southern Humboldt has a lot to offer, but so much of what makes this place special is not something you are going to find in an MLS description. It is the history, the people, the little landmarks, the community events, and all of the stories that connect one generation to the next. 🌾

I have spent my life around this area, and now I get to share some of that knowledge with people who are choosing to make Southern Humboldt their home. There is something pretty full circle about that.

And it is always encouraging to meet people who come here wanting to learn, participate, support local causes, and become part of the community rather than simply live in it. That is the kind of growth I like seeing.

Change has a way of making us uncomfortable before it starts to make sense.

Most of us get attached to the plan. We picture how things are supposed to go, when they should happen, and what the outcome should look like. When something shifts, especially unexpectedly, our first instinct is often to hold even tighter to what we thought was going to happen.

But not every change is a setback.

Real estate has taught me that plans can change quickly. A market shifts. A transaction takes an unexpected turn. New information comes to light. Something that once seemed like the right path no longer fits.

The same is true in life. Sometimes the hardest part is accepting that the original plan is no longer the right one. Adapting does not mean you failed or that what came before did not matter. It means you are paying attention, learning, and making the best decision you can with what you know now.

You may not be able to control every change, but you can decide how you respond to it. Stay honest about where you are, adjust when you need to, and keep moving forward.

The plan may change. The next step still matters.
