So, last week, this program opened up for anyone wishing to buy a home.

You can get up to $150,000 to buy a home in California. They will give you up to 20% of the loan amount (hence the "Up To $150,000" statement. It is a shared appreciation loan. So you will have to pay it back plus maybe an additional 20% back of the gained equity.

But it is a way to get funds for down payment and/or closing costs to a loan. And help lower your costs (both escrow costs and monthly costs) for buying or paying for a home.

It might even help you qualify for a little bit more expensive house if that house fits more of what you are looking for.

Three more point on this, is that the first step into getting into the program is to get pre-approved for a home loan (they just want to make sure that you qualify and that you are serious). And the 2nd point is that this program is a lottery. People who successfully get pre-approved and enter this program (application cut off is "I believe)" April 29th. Names will be drawn at random from this list and be available to receive the funds. Funds will be handed out until the money runs out.
