Folks who are planning U.S. travel over the next few months should add one noteworthy Alabama city to their bucket list.

That’s the word from Forbes, which named Auburn — the “loveliest village on the Plains” and home to Auburn University — as one of “52 All-American Summer Getaways”for 2026.
The Forbes Travel Guide recently made recommendations for stops in all 50 states, along with Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico.

“Whether you want to immerse yourself in living history, retreat to a private island sanctuary or seek adventure in the oldest national parks, this state-by-state guide provides the ultimate cross-country travel bucket list,” Forbes said.
The list is linked to America’s 250th birthday celebration this year, touting “majestic purple mountain retreats, hotels built by American entrepreneurs and other historic venues in the land of the free.”
