WaterRun is a 14-acre estate offering a huge variety of uses and terrains: a tennis court, whimsical landscaped gardens, hiking paths, a gorge with a stream, and a sun-drenched open field that could be used for large-scale gardening, farming, or anything else you can imagine. This photo of the house and surrounding gardens created by Paul Mayén shows only a small fraction. The potential of this estate - both indoors and outdoors - is endless. 🏡🌳

WaterRun, an extraordinary home surrounded by park-like gardens, is actually comprised of TWO structures – each a complete living space with its own bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living rooms/gathering spaces, dining room, solarium, library, and much more – connected by a unique 83-foot glass-enclosed walkway. Architect Paul Mayén - designer of FLW’s Fallingwater’s welcome center - built the “White House”, an oval-shaped home, in 1975 and then added the “Red House” in the mid-1990’s. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

A MYSTERIOUS CONNECTION? Just a few years after WaterRun’s architect, Paul Mayén, built the property here in the Hudson Valley in 1975, he designed the Frank Lloyd Wright Fallingwater’s Visitor’s Center in western Pennsylvania at the request of his partner, Edgar Kaufmann jr., who lived with him here at WaterRun and who had inherited Fallingwater from his father in the 1950’s. But Edgar jr. wanted more than just to add a welcome center to Fallingwater - he wanted to do so in a way that would respect and celebrate the surrounding forest. So Mayén used a design: a central “core” with covered walkways branching out from it in a manner that would minimize the disturbance of trees, flowers, and plants. The naturally lit core, a place to purchase tickets and relax and socialize…is a sixteen-sided form.

Here, at one spot in the gardens of WaterRun, Mayén installed a small granite groundpiece where paths meet, a particularly nice spot to stop and chat and enjoy the natural beauty all around - 𝘢 𝘴𝘪𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘯-𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘯𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯.
