One of the best things about fall in the Smokies and Southern Appalachians is that peak color doesn’t happen everywhere at once. It generally works its way down the mountains — starting at the highest elevations and gradually moving into the valleys.

🏔️ Early October: Head for the highest elevations
🍁 Mid-October: Look for color across the higher mountain regions
🍂 Late October: Peak color moves toward Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, North Georgia, Asheville, and other lower elevations
