Our agency has been notified that several homes listed for sale in our county have been posted on Craigslist "AVAILABLE FOR RENT". This has been a scam that law enforcement has seen in the past. Below you will see some tips on how to avoid these type of rental scams.

The listing photos have an MLS watermark.
The listing details are vague.
They don't want to show you the place first.
They're ready to make a deal with no background info.
They're out of the country.
They want you to sign or pay right away.
The asking rent doesn’t match up.
They instruct you to wire money or cash app money
They require a "application fee" to see the house

AGENT BEWARE! FRAUDULENT VACANT LAND LISTING LEADS!
It has been brought to the Water Wonderland Board of Realtors attention that there have been two fraudulent incidents reported dealing with vacant land listing leads. The incidents are similar in which the potential seller(s) provide valid emails, phone numbers, property addresses, and photo ID’s/driver’s licenses for verification. This makes it very difficult to identify it as a scam.
With the two reported incidents, both agents went ahead and listed the properties with the information given. Resulting in the real property owners notifying them questioning why their property is showing as being listed for sale.
This kind of scam is not easily recognizable. Therefore, we encourage all of our members to take extra precaution with any vacant land leads you may receive to ensure this does not happen to you.
