To all my Myrtle Beach friends- let’s feed the animals!

The Grand Strand Humane Society is asking for your support this holiday season! The Myrtle Beach Police Department has partnered with the Humane Society to help provide essential supplies for the animals in their care during this special time of year.

Let’s come together to make a difference for these deserving animals. Check out the attached flyer for their “wish list” of items and see how you can help spread some holiday cheer to our furry friends! Donations will be accepted until December 15th!

Items can be dropped off at 1101 North Oak Street, Myrtle Beach inside our main lobby, or and the MBPD Annex located at 3340 Mustang Street, Myrtle Beach.

WHEN PARENTS GET OLD ...
Let them grow old with the same love that they let you grow ... let them speak and tell repeated stories with the same patience and interest that they heard yours as a child ... let them overcome, like so many times when they let you win ... let them enjoy their friends just as they let you … let them enjoy the talks with their grandchildren, because they see you in them ... let them enjoy living among the objects that have accompanied them for a long time, because they suffer when they feel that you tear pieces of this life away ... let them be wrong, like so many times you have been wrong and they didn’t embarrass you by correcting you ...
LET THEM LIVE and try to make them happy the last stretch of the path they have left to go; give them your hand, just like they gave you their hand when you started your path!

I was almost 50 years old before I went away for a weekend by myself. My husband bought me a weekend at a B&B in Louden County, VA where I would feel safe. I fed cows apples, sat under an enormous Magnolia tree, chatted with the owner in the kitchen while she made breakfast and made friends at the dinner table. It was one of the best times of my life and how sad that it took me so many years to have the confidence to go. Fast Forward 13 years and I "ran away from home" this weekend. Well, not really because I am very trackable but I've had a rough few weeks- work, home, family, etc. So I left. I drove two hours, met a friend in NC and then went on to Topsail Beach. I had found a lovely motel that I would feel comfortable in and I went. I'm going home tomorrow with a different outlook. During this time, I had no one to answer to. I ate what I wanted and did what I wanted. My husband always allows me to be me but being alone makes a difference.
I hope women younger than me will give themselves permission to "run away for the weekend". I wish I would have had the confidence to do it when I was younger. Oh and by the way, while I was gone I ratified two contracts and found 43 shark teeth!

Here's a local's secret about fireworks in Myrtle Beach. Grab a chair, a cooler of your favorite beverage and hit your nearest beach. You will see fireworks all around you without being in crowds or having to deal with parking. Fireworks don't start until 10 pm though and many people will shoot them off right on the beach so keep an eye on the kids.

MUST SEE this weekend! Billy Joel is phenomenal but he's not coming to Myrtle Beach. Luckily we have Long Island veteran singer/piano player David Clark at the Alabama Theatre on June 30th. Don't miss this one. Tickets can be purchased by calling the theatre at 843-272-1111

Buyers in Myrtle Beach may be fed up with the ever increasing prices of homes. We still have less than a month's supply of homes on the market but pending sales have decreased almost 10% since March for single family, 3 bedroom homes. Interest rates? The Conway Riverfest will be held Saturday, June 25, in Conway, SC. There will be a golf cart parade, a kids zone, a food and beer garden, fireworks, and much more. The Riverfest will begin at 11 am. There are also some cute, fun boutiques along the riverfront that most people miss on their trip to Myrtle Beach
