SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE TODAY

The National Weather Service is forecasting the potential for severe thunderstorms across Georgetown and Scott County today. Storms may produce damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall, dangerous lightning, and localized flash flooding.

Please use caution if you have to travel and stay weather aware throughout the day.

⚠️ Potential Hazards:
• Damaging winds capable of bringing down trees and power lines
• Heavy rainfall that may cause flash flooding
• Frequent lightning
• Isolated power outages

✅ SAFETY REMINDERS:

• Stay away from downed power lines. Assume every line is energized and immediately call 911 to report it.

• Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Never drive through flooded roadways. It only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle away.

• Secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and other loose items before storms arrive.

• Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially if storms develop after dark.

Stay alert. Stay safe, Georgetown. 💙

We’re closely monitoring the potential for severe weather across Scott County on Tuesday.

Current forecasts indicate a line of strong to severe thunderstorms could move into our area early Tuesday afternoon through evening. The primary threats include damaging straight-line winds, heavy rainfall that could lead to localized flash flooding, large hail, and even an isolated tornado.

While there is still some uncertainty regarding the exact timing and impacts, now is a great time to review your severe weather plan, make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, and secure any loose outdoor items before storms arrive.

As forecast confidence increases and details become clearer, Scott County Fire Department will continue to provide updates to help keep you informed and prepared.

Stay weather aware, Scott County. The best time to prepare is before the storms arrive. ⛈️
