Myra McCaskill Crenshaw is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Realtor at Keller Williams Realty in Memphis, TN. Myra received her Real Estate license in 2007 in North Carolina and expanded her licensure to include Tennessee and Mississippi. Myra has combined her passion for finance and real esta
te to make an impact to the Memphis Community and throughout the country. In 2005, at the age of 85, Myra’s grandmother was faced with losing her home of 45 years to foreclosure. In her demented state, Myra’s grandmother had become a victim of predatory lending that caused her mortgage to become unaffordable. Myra’s grandmother informed her that she was receiving threatening phone calls telling her had to move. Myra immediately took action to help her grandmother and eventually many families across the country. A few months prior to learning about her grandmother’s situation, Myra was briefly introduced to the Short Sale process. This brief introduction to Short Sales would be the catalyst that would eventually change Myra’s career and help her make an impact in the community. Myra’s ultimate goal was to stop her grandmother’s foreclosure and allow her to live in her home for the rest of her years. Myra was able to accomplish the goal of stopping her grandmother’s foreclosure. Going through this process had a significant impact on Myra’s outlook. She knew that if her grandmother was a victim of predatory lending, there were so many other victims that were not aware of their rights and options. As a result of this personal experience, Myra’s path was set to become an advocate for families when faced with financial hardships or mortgage improprieties. Myra started on the journey to become an advocate for families faced with distressed property matters while still working as a corporate professional. Less than two years later, this country was faced with a major financial and housing crisis. At this point, Myra found a mission and a passion to become a full-time advocate for families faced with housing issues. In late 2007, Myra left her corporate career and became a full-time advocate for distressed homeowners. To date Myra has helped over 100 families avoid foreclosure in over six states. She has dedicated herself to becoming a community change agent to help the economic recovery one family at a time. Beyond helping distressed homeowner’s, Myra is an active leader and member of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc (NABA) – Los Angeles Chapter where she has held many elected and appointed positions. In 2005, as the NABA Chapter President, Myra created a financial literacy education series for the community on homeownership and generational wealth. She also planned and implemented the College Student Conference. The Student Conference was developed to give minority students majoring in accounting, finance and business, the opportunity to meet and interview with potential employers regarding their professional opportunities. It also allows them to participate in educational seminars that they may not otherwise obtain in their collegiate environments. Through this Student Conference, Myra was instrumental in having over 100 college students obtain full-time employment with National Accounting Firms, Fortune 500 and Regional companies in the areas of finance, accounting and business. This program is still being used today by the organization. Myra has been an active member of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors® (MAAR) since 2009.
