Many citizens and property owners in Gettysburg had strong connections to the Revolutionary War. Learn about the owner of one of the more famous heights from the battle of Gettysburg in this week’s series installment.
Culp’s Hill is one of the most strategically important, yet least visited landmarks on the battlefield. Henry Culp, who owned the land during the 1863 battle, had a direct ancestor in the American Revolution.
Henry’s grandfather, Christophel Kolb (later Americanized to Culp), served with the 7th Pennsylvania Regiment at the battles of Brandywine, Paoli, Germantown, and several other engagements. Christophel bought land in Adam’s County after serving in the Continental Army.
