Good morning, my real estate friends and community!

There have been some important changes to the Washington State Standards of Practice that licensed home inspectors are now required to follow.

I’ve highlighted one change that will likely come up frequently during home inspections: Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) protection.

Under the updated Standards of Practice, home inspectors are required to report the location of missing or inoperative AFCI protection where AFCI devices are recommended and/or required by current industry standards. Inspectors must also advise clients that homes without arc-fault protection should have AFCI devices installed where recommended and/or required.
