My southern-born self declared today a snow day, even if our district elected not to call it. Enjoyed hot chocolate, sledding, shoveling for neighbors, and watching Groundhog Day. A little throwback to 7 years ago too… however did I manage when they were that small?!

Yay for 6 more weeks of winter, I guess ❄️❄️ Now back to work… if the weather isn’t warm, at least we can rely on the market to be hot!

This was such a fun project to work on! Griffin Harvey Group helped to sponsor Glen Ellyn Newcomers’ annual Breakfast with Santa in December and we created and gave away the most fun coloring book - some pages featured here… Mary Gayle loves coloring all the places she’s knows, but it’s great as an adult coloring book too!

How to increase your home value (& resale potential) 👇

Keep it WELL MAINTAINED 🔨

A well maintained home and documentation of how it was maintained is like the icing on a cake to a home buyer!

Buyers always want to know:

"What is the age of the roof?"

"When was the furnace last tuned up?"

"How old is the AC unit?"

Condition is one of the top factors that will determine what you can sell your home for.

Keep it simple by keeping it maintained.

I put together a 2 page (or double sided) monthly checklist of home maintenance to do's for the entire year 🗓

Print it out, laminate it, hang it on the fridge and reap the rewards both (when it comes time to sell). At the same time, it will help to avoid major home maintenance issues when you're routinely taking care of things.

Happy New Year, my friends!

Your house wants a fresh start as much as you do! Shall we call them real estate resolutions? In order to gear your home up for a successful year, here are the home maintenance tasks you should be tackling the first month of the year…

🎄 Store Christmas decor in labeled bins (I like to use red and green to keep it festive and easy to find in the storage room) ❤️💚

🚂 Refresh play spaces (grab a few stylish storage bins from Target or IKEA to clean up the kid toys)

🔋 Replace smoke alarm batteries

🧼 Clean out the fridge and wipe down shelves🚿 Replace shower curtain liners

🧽 Wipe down fan blades

🛀 Wash duvet covers and sheets (throw in dryer balls with essential oils for a spa scented infusion)

👕 Organize dresser drawers and closets (Donate anything you haven't worn in the past 12 months)

💡 Replace burnt out light bulbs

s🧹Remove dust from air vents

📝 Make a list of items to stock up on

🏡 Make a list of HOME GOALS!

A little Christmas through the years from the Turners ❤️💚 Hope that your Christmas was lovely this year. We were sick with the flu, but what can you do?! We still baked cookies and cooked and watched Christmas movies and listened to all the songs and Santa still came 🎄

It's the most wonderful time of the year - HOORAY! And while home maintenance probably sounds like the last thing on your priority list (hello - there are Christmas movies to watch and Eggnog to pour), I had to make sure you (& your home) ended the year strong! 💪

Don't worry, I'm taking it easy on you this month AND serving up a lot of fun too!

-Before decorating, switch out old Christmas lightbulbs with LED bulbs

-Clear snow and ice from walkways

-Inspect and upgrade attic insulation and ventilation

-Set-up a gift wrapping station

-Inspect your winter weather supplies - shovels, window scrapers, etc. (Don't forget to add a snow scraper to your car)!

-Prepare for power outages - stock up on water, non-perishables, candles, etc

-Check caulking and weatherstripping on doors and windows

-Have your fireplace and chimney cleaned

-Insulate exposed water pipes under your house

-Disconnect and drain garden hoses

-Refresh the holiday decor in one room of your house (which one are you picking?)

What would you do with an “extra” room? Let’s say you have a home with a traditional layout... you walk into the foyer and the dining room is to the left and there’s another room to the right... how would you use that room?

There are so many options - formal living room, office, music room, or my favorite - cocktail room...

I’ve been seeing more and more of these cozy spaces these days - I suppose it’s a modern translation of the formal living room. Typically housing a sofa and comfy chairs, the furniture arrangement is intentionally close, inviting you to gather with a small group over drinks, coffee, and games.
