We just published our Complete Guide to Pasadena Rental Laws. Everyone who has any interest in the future of housing laws should browse through these laws to see the direction things are going. Here are just three highlights:

1) You cannot raise rent if you have failed to follow any one rule. And there are a lot. And new rules are being added continuously.
2) If you raise rent more than 5% + 75% of CPI and the tenant says they’re moving, you must pay relocation fees that range from $7620 to $37798. If the tenant changes their mind about moving, they get to keep a fourth of the relocation fees.
3) If you want to move back into your house you must pay the tenant to leave, anywhere from $7620 to $37798. And each year for the next three years you have to let the Pasadena Rental Housing Board know you are still living...in your own house.
