My mom recently called me because one of her friends was thinking about getting a reverse mortgage and wanted to know the pros and cons.

It made me realize that reverse mortgages are one of those financial products many people have heard about but don't completely understand.

In this video, I explain how reverse mortgages work, including the difference between an FHA-insured Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) and a proprietary or jumbo reverse mortgage, some of the potential advantages and disadvantages, and what happens from a probate and inherited-real-estate perspective when the borrower passes away.
