Well… we've lost our Mascot.
Our Pepper has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She lived 13 years and 28 days. Our feisty, sassy, spoiled teenager passed peacefully. We prayed for that, we prayed that she would not suffer endlessly or needlessly but would just fall asleep and continue on with her journey. She will wake up soon, surrounded by plates of her favorite snacks with new fur buddies and new people to bark at. Besides eating, drinking, pooping, and peeing, barking is what she excelled at. All who knew her knew that is what she did best. Eventually, as she settled down, worn out from barking, she would accept you as a visitor. Until, of course, you moved too quickly or spoke too loudly. Then she started up again. Our secret was for me to hold her in my arms. That would quiet her down. Did she feel safer in my arms? Or just doing her job protecting her 6’3” dad from any danger that might be lurking in her eyes. I feel the latter. She loved to bark at COWS too, went crazy whenever and wherever we saw one. Especially ones that liked to mosey by our property. They never knew what great danger they were in if only we let this 13lb 13” tall ball of furry fury out of my arms. We were always sad to hear about others losing their fur babies. Often brought tears to our eyes to hear their stories of love. We knew we too would have to face the same thing someday. That someday is here for us now and it hurts. She’ll be in our hearts forever and the pain of our loss will fade away eventually, but our love never will. She was a spoiled little lovable brat who always got what she wanted… mostly just by staring at us. Thank you, God, for bringing her into our life and giving us so many years of enjoyment and memories.
