Happy 250th, America.

Two hundred and fifty years. That's a milestone birthday, and I don't take a single day of living in this country for granted.
The freedom to build a life and put down roots wherever your heart lands, that's the whole American story. And it's the one I get to be a small part of every time I hand someone the keys to a place they call home. 🏡

🎶 Found the heartbeat of downtown Bonita.
If you haven't been to Sugarshack Downtown on Old 41 yet, put it on your list. This place used to be an old transmission shop. Now it's the hottest live music venue in Southwest Florida, and it's right in the middle of our downtown. 🎸

Here's what makes it special: live music seven nights a week, and it's free to the public. It grew out of the Sugarshack Sessions, those backyard acoustic jams that started right here in Bonita and now have close to half a million followers online. The space is big, open-air, two bars, dog-friendly 🐾, with a food and cocktail menu to match. Come for a laid-back lunch or stay for the band. Either way you'll get why lines wrapped the block when it opened.

🇺🇸 And the timing couldn't be better. This Saturday, July 4th, head downtown for the Bonita Springs Independence Day Parade (kicks off 9AM on Rosemary, down Old 41, ending at Kentucky Street), then keep the party going at Sugarshack with live music, food, cold drinks, and all the red, white, and blue. 🎆

This is exactly the kind of thing that's turning downtown Bonita into a place people want to live, not just visit. Old 41 has come alive, and there's more coming. 🌴

Please, please look this up if the X link doesn’t work. sunscreen is dangerous. Stop using it, please, except for zinc based. I have known this for years because I developed skin cancer when I started to use sunscreen, which I then stopped and switched to zinc based, only as needed for long lengths of time in the sun.

Downtown Bonita, spot by spot
If you think Southwest Florida is all gated golf communities and chain restaurants, you haven't seen downtown Bonita Springs lately.
The historic district on Old 41 has come back to life the last few years, and you can park once and walk the whole thing. Right on the Imperial River there's Rooftop at Riverside, a two-story bar sitting over a little food truck park, looking out at the water and Riverside Park. Live music, a sunset crowd, dogs welcome, kids welcome. The kind of place you stop in for one drink and end up staying for the whole evening.
And it's not the only one down there now. More good food, drinks, and live music keep opening, and the city has plans to keep building the area out.
They think beaches and golf. They don't think walkable downtown with a band playing by the river.
