Surf Park to be built at Hidden Lake

Surf park planned at former Hidden Lake event venue in West ValleyA surf park is being planned in Buckeye at the site of a former wedding and event venue.

The 120-acre Hidden Lake venue was bought for $10.5 million on Jan. 13 by a California entrepreneur who once served as Mayor of El Segundo.

Ocean Front Property in Arizona LLC on Jan. 13 scooped up the wedding and events venue that includes a 60-acre lake once used for fishing, kayaking, live music and festivals. The $10.5 million deal could reshape one of the West Valley’s most recognizable waterfront properties.The property is set to be redeveloped into the Hidden Lake Surf Resort, according to Maricopa County records. The resort would be a year-round entertainment destination with “surfing, outdoor recreation, event space, music venue, retail, and food and beverage,” according to a document filed with Maricopa County. Ocean Front Property of Arizona intends to build “one or more surf lagoons” at the site.

OFP plans to fill and refill the lagoons with “stored effluent to be recovered from a new well to be drilled by OFP” at the property, the documents suggest.

According to CoStar, Taylor Morrison has been busy expanding in the West Valley. The builder purchased nearly 150 acres in Buckeye from PulteGroup in July - just three months after acquiring 131 acres in Queen Creek from Crown West Realty.
Taylor Morrison, a publicly traded company, is currently the 8th largest homebuilder in the U.S., with 12,896 homes sold last year (Builder Magazine).
In their latest report, the company shared that their average closing price dipped 2% to $589,000.
