Macy's Herald Square, the iconic flagship store for the Macy's department store chain, originally designed by the architectural firm DeLemos & Cordes.

Opened in 1902 for Isidor and Nathan Straus, the original Broadway portion of the building was designed by Theodore de Lemos and August W. Cordes in the Beaux-Arts style.

The store reached its current form after several expansions designed by architect Robert D. Kohn in 1924, 1928, and 1931, which added more Art Deco-influenced elements.

Upon the completion of its Seventh Avenue addition in 1924, it became the largest department store in the world, a title it held for many decades. The building is famous for its historic wooden escalators.
